Monster Minivan Jam

Hi, Everyone:

A long week for us all, as we count down our final days before the big move.

a stop along the road for some music.

Our drive out to Pennsylvania was smooth and without incident. We were very relieved to pull the U-Haul trailer safely into Katherine's mom's driveway, and even more relieved when we easily found nooks and corners to store our things. Thanks, Grandma Peeky

Katherine can back up a trailer, magnificently.

We found ourselves in real need to rest, relax and enjoy this beautiful southwestern corner of Pennsylvania. August is one of the most beautiful times of the year out there, and we love to hike its trails, drive its hills and appreciate its scenery.

Hosting our family at your house is clearly hilarious.

Leo wanted to know why Grandma had 'a pot on her head'

The kids romped all around the house and we had a wonderful visit. We spent time with the the kids' 99-year-old great-grandmother, Mabel.

We also had a happy coincidence visiting during the annual Greene County fair.  That was a major hit. We rode the rides..and viewed the carnies...

...and had a special treat this year:  a monster truck jam, noticed via our suspended perch on the Ferris Wheel:

It was awesome. It was also loud. Three giant trucks: Ford was represented, as were Chevy and Dodge.

The crowd had major allegiances to their favorite truck, and when I bellowed out, "Yeeee hawwww!!!  Go Toyota!!!" no one seem to find it even a little bit funny.  It was at that moment that those sitting near me realized that this was, perhaps, my first monster truck jam.  Even Leo looked ashamed…

So I collected myself, and enjoyed the rest of the show.  Particularly when, as a sideshow, a guy in a crash helmet drove a smart car (insert audience booing) equipped with a jet engine (insert audience cheering) onto the grounds and blew all of our drums out of our heads.  It was just perfect as I was preparing for a five-day recording in Boston…

We loaded up our 'monster minivan' and with big hugs for Grandma and Jack, continued out toward Boston. More photos coming soon…
